The Solution

The TurnSafe concept was first conceived by Jason Perkes back in 1997 after he had to undergo Class 1 Driver Training as part of his  employment. "The first time I made a left turn in an articulated vehicle I realised there was no useful view in the main mirror during articulation"
After experiencing the problem and looking into it a bit further, it was felt that only a self contained automatically adjusting mirror solution would provide a viable option for customers to consider TurnSafe. Fundamentally this meant the installation of such a product had to be quick and relatively cheap particularly for large fleets.
The key to a successfull product was to keep the sensing capability to within the mirror housing. We wanted to avoid fitting anything to the the trailers or elsewhere in the vehicle to keep the installation and product costs as low as possible. This is why a digital camera is used instead of any other methods.

The History

Since the original seedling idea was thought of some 10 years ago and with more recent advancements in digital imaging sensor technology. TurnSafe™ is available today. The proving and development included a full feasibility study using early prototypes in partnership with a national supermarket chain. This feasibility study was a resounding success in proving the concept worked, paving the way forward towards a production item.

A core development team has spent thousands of man hours (and a considerable financial investment) into the research and development of the product we have today. From its unique and patented Rubber Back Cover that absorbs considerable forces of impact, through to the advanced image processing software, the Design Brief was always aimed at delivering the functionality required by vehicle activity and drivers alike. This also had to be delivered within a modular and robust system being easily deployed on a single vehicle or across a large fleet.
